What causes Neck Pain?

Your neck is flexible, has a lot of moving parts, and is responsible for supporting the entire weight of your head. All of these factors make it incredibly vulnerable to injury and strain. Some common causes of neck pain include: Strained muscles

There are a variety of ways to strain the muscles in your neck, like:

Hunching over your computer or phone Having poor posture Poor sleeping position Jerking your neck during a physical activity Grinding your teeth These factors can easily trigger strains that may lead to neck pain. Worn joints As you age, the joints in your neck wear down, which can cause pain. Osteoarthritis can also lead to neck pain, as it causes the cartilage between your vertebrae to deteriorate, which can cause painful bone spurs. Nerve compression Otherwise known as a “pinched nerve,” this happens when a herniated disk presses up against the nerves that branch out from your spinal cord, causing pain.

Functional Biomarker Testing

We use Functional Biomarkers in urine to identify sources of pain.

The Functional Biomarker panel enables our providers to identify a deficiency, imbalance, or condition that can cause or worsen pain.

We have Laboratory Urine tests with functional biomarker panels specific to pain. These provide objective measurements of biomarkers known to be associated with pain and may be used as part of a pain specific work up. Analytes included in functional biomarker testing can be classified as markers of the following:

  • INFLAMMATION
  • NERVE HEALTH
  • NEUROTRANSMITTER STATUS
  • OXIDATIVE STRESS

Functional biomarker testing provides novel, objective information about the biochemical origins of pain. Correcting abnormal biomarker findings with cost-effective, non-opioid therapies that we offer provides a valuable adjunct treatment program to maximize the likelihood of successful and prolonged pain management.
